Every number below is computed live from your inputs โ€” nothing hardcoded. Move the sliders and the whole breakdown re-computes. FSD is included in all three options, because that's non-negotiable.

โšก How to charge: the 2-hour-gated work setup

Your office has Level 3 (DC fast) chargers with a 2-hour session cap. Here's the good news: that cap will basically never bind you. A full DC session on a 2022 Model 3 takes under an hour.

1

Know your battery

A 2022 Model 3 RWD (the one to hunt for) has the LFP pack โ‰ˆ 60 kWh โ€” it charges to 100% without battery guilt, and Tesla actually recommends a 100% charge at least weekly. Peak DC rate โ‰ˆ 170 kW: 10% โ†’ 100% in roughly 50โ€“60 minutes. The 2-hour gate is 2ร— what you need.

2

The office-day routine

You arrive with ~30% after the 63-mile morning run. Plug in around 9am, the app pings you near full by ~10โ€“10:30, you move the car. That one session (โ‰ˆ 42 kWh) covers the entire 127-mile round trip with buffer. Do it on both office days and you're fueled for the week.

3

Don't be the hog

The 2-hour cap exists so people rotate. Move your car when the app says it's done โ€” campus karma matters and coworkers notice. If the stalls are full when you arrive, wait for the mid-morning shuffle; most people unplug by 10:30.

4

WFH days: do nothing

The car sits. No charging needed, no errands to "top up." If you burn personal miles on weekends, grab a 15-minute Supercharger top-up โ€” or just roll it into your next office day's session.

5

Keep a backup in your pocket

If work chargers are down or iced by non-EVs, the nearest Supercharger is a 20-minute stop, needed maybe once a month. Precondition the battery via the app on the way there in winter.

The key point: with this setup you never need home charging. If your apartment or house has no plug, it doesn't matter โ€” the office is your gas station, two days a week, ~40 minutes a session.

๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ The commute, realistically

Antioch โ†’ Menlo Park is not a short drive. Here's the honest picture at 2 days a week.

Route

CA-4 W โ†’ CA-242 S โ†’ I-680 S โ†’ CA-84 W over the Dumbarton Bridge โ†’ US-101 S into Menlo Park. About 63โ€“68 miles each way, 127-mile round trip.

Time

80โ€“110 minutes each way in rush hour. Leave Antioch ~7:00am โ†’ desk ~8:30. Leave ~5:30pm โ†’ home ~7:00โ€“7:15. That's ~3 hours in the car per office day, ~6 hours a week.

Toll

Dumbarton is $8.50 westbound with FasTrak (2026 rate, rising yearly to $10.50 by 2030). You pay it every morning; the evening return is free. โ‰ˆ $880/year at 2 days/week.

No carpool lane

California's Clean Air Vehicle decal program ended Sept 30, 2025. A 2022 Model 3 gets no HOV access โ€” you're in the regular lanes on 680 with everyone else. This is exactly where FSD earns its $99.

Where FSD shines

The grind โ€” CA-4 through Pittsburg/Concord, 680 through San Ramon, the Dumbarton approach backup โ€” is stop-and-go highway, FSD's best use case. You'll take over for the 84/101 interchange dance and Menlo Park surface streets.

Energy per day

127 miles at ~3.0 mi/kWh โ‰ˆ 42 kWh per office day โ€” about 70% of the LFP pack. You arrive home with ~30% left. Totally comfortable, no range anxiety, ever.
